    "Fr. Edwin Arentsen, 83

    Fr. Edwin F. Arentsen, 83, died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese on Monday, Jan. 3rd, 2000. Born in Damiansville on Dec. 21st, 1916, Father was a son of John and Anna Kalmer Arentsen. Two sisters, Sister Mary Damian of Ruma and Rita Rakers of Aviston and two brothers, Vince Arentsen of Damiansville and Otto Arentsen of Trenton, survive. Two brothers, Alphonse Olliges and Arnold Arentsen, preceded him in death.

    Fr. Arentsen was ordained a priest on June 5th, 1943, and served as an associate pastor at St. Henry's in East St. Louis, St. Dominic's in Breese, St. Liborius in St. Libory and St. Luke's in Belleville. He then was pastor at Immaculate Conception in Bridgeport, St. Anthony in Lively Grove, St. Lawrence in Sandoval and Holy Cross in Wendelin. In 1978, he retired but remained very active in the Pro-Life movement. Since 1991, he had resided in the Hincke Home in Belleville.

    A Service of Reception of the Body will be held at 3 p.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Damian's Church in Damiansville, followed by visitation until 9 p.m. Visitation will also he held from 9 a.m. until time of Mass on Thursday. Most Rev. Bishop Wilton Gregory will officiate at services at St. Damian's at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6th. Burial will follow in the church cemetery."

    Edwin leefde in Carlyle en werd verscheidene keren veroordeeld vanwege anti-abortus demonstraties. Hij overleed in het St.Joseph Hospital in Breese.
